Podcast Update

As of November 8, 2010, MCPS suspended access to SoundCloud on school networks. In plain English, that means that we can no longer post podcasts to SoundCloud on school computers. Since many of these files are much too large to e-mail, and we can't burn CDs on our school computer in the studio, that we have found a solution.

Official.fm is a web site that is very similar, and in many ways better, than SoundCloud. You will still be allowed unlimited free downloads of all of our material that we post there. We won't have to pay a cent for the privilege.

However, please, please, please bear with me as I transfer all of the podcasts from the SoundCloud to the Official.fm. It is a very tedious process. They should be up, though, by tomorrow.

For those that are very devoted to SoundCloud, all existing material WILL remain up there; however, you will not see anything new going up. For that, you'll have to go to the brand spankin' new Official.fm page.

Also, for all of our listeners, and BNC fans, check out the new updated BNC web site! It's a masterpiece in progress by "Colin," known within BNC simply as "the Internet." There are a couple of kinks that are being worked out right now, but it's going to be updated with our signature awesome BNC material from all divisions on a very regular basis, so keep in touch there, too.

On a final note, one advantage of Official.fm for us DJs is the Dropbox built in. If you're in a Blair or local band, and you'd like to get in touch with us in song about your interest in being on a show, just click on the Dropbox button on the page. If you're interested in being on the show but don't have a song to submit yet, that's also okay. Let me know at adam.maisto@bncmedia.org.

Happy listening!

That's All, Folks: Episode 1 - Conor Hearn, The Red Line Quintet

As we continue to gear up for a great year here at BNC Radio, I'm very excited to release my very first BNC Radio podcast, a new series called That's All, Folks.

This is a show that will focus on both traditional and contemporary folk music that reflects the endless and bountiful diversity that is present here at Blair. On my first episode of That's All, Folks, we interview Conor Hearn, a St. Anselms sophomore and stringed folk virtuoso; we play a track from the school's prestiged jazz combo (Matt Volk, Peter Leonard, Kathryn Waychoff, Jeremy Lebow, and Elliot Meyerson); and we illustrate the beautiful sound of the Russian balalaika.

Interview Extravaganza

Hey there,

If you've checked our soundcloud recently, you might've noticed a bit of activity going on that wasn't updated here. I was saving up a couple great interviews to unleash on the blogspot in an interview extravaganza. Here it is, for the whole world to see:

Eric Hutchinson visited Blair just before Spring Break (end of March). Check out the news!

Much thanks to Eric Hutchinson, Alex Carapetis, and Parker Gispert. They are all such nice guys.

Enjoy,

PS- Head over to the BNC Radio soundcloud if you want to check out some raw sound from Eric Hutchinson's visit.

PPS- Eric got asked about a certain rap he did in a group called "Wonderbread" during high school. I scrounged it up here!

Free Music from Bonnaroo for a Good Cause

Everyone likes free music, right? I'm guessing yes.

Music for action is offering up the "best" of Bonnaroo, a four day music festival held on a 700 acre farm in Tennesee, just for emailing your senators and advocating the passage of a clean energy bill.

The compilation includes music from Jack Johnson, Raphael Saadiq, Pearl Jam, and much more. Here's the link: http://www.musicforaction.org/

Enjoy the "Best of Bonnaroo" and don't forget to check out the new Radio Renaissance show!

The Boulevard's Best with Lauren and Jeanne Jarvis-Gibson by BNCRadio

Here's the first episode of the Boulevard's Best, a show hosted by me, DJ Spin-o-saurus, that showcases Blair music groups.
This first episode features a live performance and interview with Lauren and Jeanne J-G, so check it out:

This post also christens the new SoundCloud account! We can now post players on Blogspot, Facebook, Twitter, and basically everywhere. Although, the free account only gives you two hours of space for tracks. Seeing as our podcasts (and podcasts in general) get pretty long, we filled that space pretty quickly. But in about three days we'll upgrade to a 12-hour account.

Since I did play a little Those Guys on the new podcast here, I just wanted to pay some respect to Paris Essoumbra. His musical inclinations and his way with words are definitely present in their songs, and he will be missed. We also wanted to say that Those Guys has the support of BNC Radio in trying to push through and keep composed even in the face of such a great loss.

Peace and Love,
--DJ Spin-o-saurus
